It is a pleasure to announce our speakers:<br \/>\nDr. Liana Zanette and Dr. Michael Clinchy from Western University, Department of Biology (London, Ontario, Canada), who will talk about &#8216;The ecology of fear&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018ecology of fear\u2019 concerns quantifying the total impact of predators on prey populations and communities. Predators directly kill prey, but the fear that predators induce in their prey may additionally impact prey demography and generate trophic cascades. The challenge is that whereas one can watch a lion killing a zebra one cannot \u2018see\u2019 fear killing a zebra, but must instead infer its effects. Manipulative experiments are thus essential to making strong inferences about the effects of fear.
