🦌 We are looking for a PhD candidate!
Are you passionate about evolution, genetics, palaeoecology and biogeography? Would you like to conduct research in one of Europe’s most remarkable natural areas?Join the Mammal Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences in Białowieża and become part of the project: “Changes in the range, genetic diversity and habitats of occurrence of two roe deer species in Europe from the last glaciation to modern times.”
The project will investigate the history of the European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) and the Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus) over the last 50,000 years. Using cutting-edge genetic analyses, stable isotope methods, radiocarbon dating and GIS tools, you will help reconstruct past distribution ranges, explore the evolutionary history of both species to understand how climate change and human-driven landscape transformations have shaped their populations.
We offer:
🔬 a friendly and supportive international research environment,
🌿 the opportunity to live and work in the heart of the Białowieża Primeval Forest,
✈️ opportunities for scientific development through conferences, workshops and collaborations with leading research institutions,
🧬 participation in an exciting interdisciplinary project combining genetics, palaeontology and biogeography.
We are looking for candidates with an MSc degree in biology or a related field, an interest in laboratory work and data analysis, good English skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
