Between 28-30 September, a course “Scientific writing in English” took place in the Mammal Research Institute. The course had a workshop formula and was led by Dr. Linus Svensson from Sweden, Head of the Oikos Editorial Office and for 20 years a managing Editor of scientific journals. Among 20 participants, there were staff, PhD students and trainees of the MRI, as well as PhD students from the Museum and Institute of Zoology PAS and from the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw.

The course covered following aspects: • General principles of information transfer • When and why to publish • The editorial process • Roles of editors and referees • The structure of scientific manuscripts • Text structure • Illustrations and tables • Ethics in scientific publishing. It heavily based on students’ own work and experiences.

The course was organised within 7 FP Bioconsus project of the MRI. Due to the considerable interest in participating in the course next editions are planned.
