Volunteering / Practical training
Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Białowieża is looking for a volunteer/student for laboratory work under the project:
“Adaptation of alien invasive species – the impact of ranch escapee American mink on feral population.”
Project Leader: Assoc. Prof. Andrzej Zalewski
Volunteer / Practical training Leader: Marta Kołodziej-Sobocińska, PhD
Requirements:
1. Interest in the field of biological sciences, such as: biology of mammals, parasitology, ecology, animal diseases, pathology.
2. Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques, such as: preparation of solutions, skills of a microscope use, preparation of simple microscopic slides, the use of basic surgical instruments and laboratory equipment.
3. Ability to work in a team.
4. The readiness to improve the practical skills of working in a biological laboratory.
5. Knowledge of the English language.
We provide:
1. Work on a large amount of unique material derived from wild animals.
2. The opportunity to acquire practice in working in a biological laboratory.
3. Training in the sectioning of the internal organs of wild animals.
4. Training in the isolation and identification of wild animals parasites.
5. Work in a young and international team.
6. Taking part in seminars and academic lectures on the biology, ecology and genetics of wild mammals, delivered in MRI PAS.
7. Stay in unique and one of the most beautiful regions of Europe – in the Białowieża Forest.
