Prof. Bogumiła Jędrzejewska i Dr. Karol Zub co-authored article on vole cycles in Science

Results of analyses of long-term data from Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Poland and France, presented in the paper Europe-wide dampening of population cycles in keystone herbivores published on April 5th in Science, revealed a synchronised change in vole population cycles leading to the gradual loss of these vole outbreaks. Among the authors of this paper there are two scientists from the Mammal Research Institute – Prof. Bogumiła Jędrzejewska and Dr. Karol Zub. A dramatic change in the fluctuations of vole numbers seen across Europe may have serious implications for numerous species which feed on these rodents. Most likely some global, potentially a climatic cause is responsible for such a consistent pattern of decline.
