About the unit
The subject of the Unit’s activity are issues concerning genetic diversity and phylogeography of mammals, and influences of genetic isolation on species diversification, analyzed on the basis of different molecular markers (nuclear and mitochondrial DNA). The object of research are both small and large mammals, such as rodents, shrews or European bison. Results of these genetic studies are used in practice in management and protection of endangered species or populations.
